Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!
4th studio album by international alternative rock band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! was recorded in June and July of 2007 at The State of the Ark Studios in Richmond. Released on 3 March, Nick Cave describes the album as “A hemorrhaging of words and ideas.”
On February 18 the title track Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! will be released as the first single - on CD or limited edition 7", or as a digital download, with ‘Accidents Will Happen’ as the B-side.
Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! has got a dizzying narrative that unrolls Western civilization from Homer to Freud, the Bible to the Beats, fitting in its own cast of mythical characters along the way.
Little Janie and the sinister Mr. Sandman lock into a grim dance on ‘Today’s Lesson’, a blast of sexual politics crammed into one nasty rock’n’roll fable. The roaming spirits of ‘Albert Goes West’ go on an interstate rampage through psychotic episodes and dive bar beers.
Then there’s the pyrotechnic rant ‘We Call Upon The Author’, which subtly and self-mockingly sets Cave The Songwriter in the dock, challenges God to account for himself and sets a literary feud – “Bukowski was a jerk! Berryman was best!!!” to an irresistible beat. Formats include special edition containing 54-page booklet with lyrics, writings and photos.
The album ‘Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!’ is released on 3 March
