Pink Floyd re-unites for Live 8!!
Pink Floyd join the stellar line-up of music movers and shakers
The experimental rock band Pink Floyd, famous for legendary albums such as ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ and ‘The Wall’, will be performing together for the first time since 1981. The line-up for Live 8 will see Roger Waters, who has not played with the band since 1981; re-unite with Dave Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright for what promises to be the most talked about performance of Live 8.
Dave Gilmour said of the reunion: "Like most people I want to do everything I can to persuade the G8 leaders to make huge commitments to the relief of poverty and increased aid to the third world. Any squabbles Roger and the band have had in the past are so petty in this context, and if reforming for this concert will help focus attention then it's got to be worthwhile."
Since the mid-'60s, Pink Floyd’s music used electronics and special effects, to push pop formats to their limits.
The group became superstars on both sides of the Atlantic with their masterpiece ‘Dark Side of the Moon’, and made them one of the biggest selling acts of all time spending an amazing 741 weeks on the Billboard album chart. ‘Dark Side of the Moon’, with its wistful and melancholic instrumentals made it an easily translatable album and propelled it to become one of the most popular rock albums worldwide.
The Pink Floyd reunion will be a key component of the Live 8 London proceedings, which will also include performances from Madonna, REM, U2, Paul McCartney, Elton John, Coldplay and Robbie Williams. Live 8 takes place in Hyde Park on 2nd July. |
