Victoria Reviews 2001 and Gives Us the Lowdown on 'A Mind of It's Own'

Victoria's 2001 Christmas interview

What have you been up to since the release of your last single?

Since the release of my last single I have been very busy travelling around Europe and Japan promoting the album and the single. I've also been looking after David and Brooklyn. I've also promoted my book as well. My book has been a huge success so I've been promoting that at the same time.

Tell us about your new single 'A Mind Of It's Own'. What is it about and who produced and wrote it?

'A Mind Of It's Own' is my next single and I wrote it with Steve Kipner and Andrew Frampton. It's one of the last tracks that I wrote for this album and it's very romantic and very heartfelt but not particularly autobiographical to me. It is one of my favourite tracks on the album and the great thing is that you're seeing the real me for the first time, you know with the video and the photos. I've got no wigs on or anything like that, it's just the real me. It's very heartfelt, it's very personal and I'm really excited about performing this song as well. It's very different and I am going to be able to do more live vocals. So yeah I'm very excited, as it's something very different.

How would you describe the style and the sound of the song?

The style is quite sophisticated and it's still pop music but a bit more grown up and a bit more me.

What kind of feedback have you had from your fans on your new album and solo career?

The fans have been really positive about this record. I wasn't expecting to have huge overnight success with this album. People know me as a celebrity but they don't know me for my music yet so I think it is going to take a few singles before they accept me as a solo artist. I have a big ladder to climb and I am just working really hard on it in Europe and Japan. I am really excited and am looking forward to people hearing it. A lot of people haven't heard it so when they do hear it, they are actually really surprised. I just want to get my music out to everybody and the more singles I release, the more of a taster people will have of the record as a whole.

Tell us about the new video. What is the concept behind it?

The concept is that I am basically just walking through a forest and I find this house and I walk into this house. I'm reminiscing about things that might have gone on in this house. I think it's quite basic but again it's very me. It was very very cold, freezing in actual fact! I was wondering outside through a load of leaves and it started to rain. It was very cold but it was good because like I said it's the first time that I have been the real me. So good fun but very cold.
