Exclusive Interview with Band of the Moment, V.S.!
Tell us about the new single: M: The new single 'Make It Hot' is an uptempo track. We made it in Denmark - it's a bit different from the first two singles 'Call You Sexy' and 'Love You Like Mad' - it's banging, it's hot, it's bouncy, and you're going to be bopping your head to it. R: It's a track that you can't help but move to!
What's the inspiration behind the song? J: 'Make It Hot' is about us lot 'making it hot' in a club scene - when you see the video you'll get the whole vibe to it. The inspiration for the video is how you feel at the end of the night when you're out there and you're getting so hot and you're trying to cool down... R: 'Love You Like Mad' was made in the same studio as this single, making this video feels like a step forward. And the video's kind of an inspiration from the film 'Signs'...as soon as you see the video you'll know what I'm talking about. M: We're working with a new director this time, his name's Phil Griffin, he's done videos for Sugababes' 'Round Round' and 'Stronger' - he's got loads of experience. R: We're very lucky to have some really good directors, when the treatment comes in for the video we all sit round and decide which one to choose, and we've just been really lucky to have some good treatments and good directors.
Tell us about the idea for the video: M: The set for 'Make It Hot' is wicked - basically, it's a big cornfield with a crop circle, and something's landed in the middle, with a big skyline painted by an artist - it's amazing how they can make it look so big and so realistic. R: The thing I like about it is that the song is about a club, and other directors could have said 'let's shoot it in a club and have lots of people dancing' etc, but we wanted something different and we liked the director choosing this idea so we thought, let's go for it. Check out the video, you'll see what I mean.
How do you feel when you see a finished video? R: I remember seeing the finished videos for 'Call You Sexy' and 'Love You Like Mad', once it had all been put together, and because you're on and off the set, you're thinking 'I wonder what it's going to look like?' and I remember sitting in the record company and thinking 'here we go, we're about to see our video, what we've been working towards', and you feel really proud. But for the first video I had a dodgy haircut so I do look back now and think that...but you learn! M: It's the cherry on the cake when you see your video, because it's what you dream about when you're young, you want to make videos, you want to be on the telly, you want to have albums, and seeing you there on the video, it's such an achievement. R: For 'Love You Like Mad' I took the video home and put it on so I could show my family, and as soon as the video had finished and I switched on the TV 'Love You Like Mad' was playing on MTV! So that was wicked. |
