Cracking the Truth About Aldershot's Own

First of all tell us about your background and where you grew up.

Redhead: Me and Nick are twenty and Jack is twenty-two. We all live in three different villages around Buckingham. We got the band together at school when we were about fifteen and then Jack joined about two years after that.

How did you meet Jack?

Redhead: Through friend of Nick’s mum.

Jack: My friend’s mum knew Nick’s mum so it was a mum thing!

Where did you get the name Crackout?

There was a TV show called My Circle Of Life and there was a character in that called Brian Crackout. And he was very cool and I liked him a lot so it stemmed from there.

You say you formed Crackout while you were at school. Were you in any bands previous to that?

Jack: Only me, but I’m older. I was in a couple of local bands… Oasis, Blur, you know! I’ve been rehearsing here all my life but it was a strokes of luck that I met Steve and Nick.

Nick: When I first met him I got in the car with him and he said, ‘Do you smoke?’ and I said ‘No’ and he said ‘You’ve got to smoke if you’re gonna become a rock star!’

Was there any specific inspiration to become musicians?

It was more just... if there’s a couple of you about and the element is there to start a band you start to think, ‘well i’m not too good at sport, i’m not one of the most popular kids at school so let’s join a band and maybe that will help. We had no message as such we just wanted to be a band.

Have you been playing instruments for a long time?

Jack: I’ve been playing since I was thirteen, not very well though.

The Raft has discovered The CarbonNeutral Company

They help business, government and individuals to tackle their contribution to climate change. In addition to forestry projects, their work includes carbon emissions reduction, renewable energy and biomass schemes, as well as carbon management and risk consulting

And that can't be a bad thing...
